The Cosmo Lounge housed the festivities of a premiere-like event last Friday, March 24. Arriving in four Rolls Royce limousines, the beautiful models of Ascent Talent Agency held center stage at the popular LoDo night club on 1523 Market St. A large crowd of partygoers enjoyed "White," a fashion gala which was sponsored by Cosmo Lounge and Ascent Talent Agency.
The Ascent Design Team -- Kristina Johnson, special event director; Sher Merchant, stylist and image consultant; and John Trau, professional makeup design -- carefully crafted a show to illustrate the latest season trends.
"This show is playful. Spring is coming, so there's a fun look," Merchant said. Merchant, who is from Beverly Hills, is in Denver for about 10 days out of every month. She brings her style and design concepts from California to incorporate into the fashion show themes presented by Ascent Talent Agency.
"White" was appropriately titled and showed the subtle bloom of spring colors to hit this season's fashion scene. The models began each segment of the two part show wearing white. Then the vibrant colors of spring came in: orange, pink, turquoise, and lavender to name a few.
"Anything orange or green is in. And anything backless is in," Debbie Knudsen from Excess Clothing Company, said.
And that's an understatement as far as backs are concerned. In this feminine and soft season, if anything is screaming this spring it's "put your back into it!"
To add a little more pizzazz, ladies will find beaded jewelry and accessories to be a fashionable addition to any outfit this season. The more unique and bizarre, the better -- especially with beaded and embroidered accessories.
Merian Hanson, owner of Etc. Accessories said that cuffs (bracelets) with velcro closures are the way to go this spring.
Beaded and printed shoes in reptile, pony, and zebra are making a mark, along with some floral prints. "There are a lot of accents and textured styles this year. Lots of flowers are also in. It's a real feminine season," Erin O'Donnell, store manager of Enzo Angiolini said.
As for men, pale colors are in this season, and they include light olives, grays, and tans. Similar colors are put together for a monochromatic or tonal look, said Mike Killmeyer, wardrobe consultant at The Men's Warehouse. Printed tops in tan and gray are also making a statement, even so, the traditional look is still what's happening in the men's fashion arena. Killmeyer said, "Three and four button suits will continue to be the trend in Denver, along with silk mock neck shirts and silk T-shirts."
Good hair must always accessorize an outfit and the stylists at Rita B Salon put their finishing touches on the models' hair. Swooped bangs in the front is the way to style your locks this spring along with everyone's favorite "flip" do. "For the men, the sexy slept-in look is in this season. It's definitely bedhead for guys," Julie Metallo, stylist from Rita B Salon, said. Indeed, care must be taken when trying this "natural" look. "Bedhead" is funky, "greasy and over-gelled" is nasty.
The fashion show, which was done in a color spectrum -- from whites to colors -- ended with the traditional favorite of black suits, dresses, and skirts. The tube dress will still be seen, but some will have the addition of tiny, floss-like straps (if they can be called straps).
