Together World

By Florence Lu

Walking into Together World is like walking into an underground party. Techno music throbs within the clothing store as fashionable people wander about a room decorated with industrial pipes. All that's missing is the strobe light.

The hours of the store are also set accordingly to their clientele of ravers, skateboarders, and snowboarders, who tend to be night owls. Together World leisurely opens at noon. "Our customers do not get up until noon," says Amiel Bills, who co-owns the store with her husband, Jason.

A natural extension of the party and rave production companies Together and Lower World, Together World has made itself into the place for underground ravers to get their wardrobe, music, party tickets and party information. The store, celebrating its second anniversary in July, is literally underground. It is located in a Cherry Creek North basement at 201 Milwaukee St.

None of the men and women's clothes found in Together World are the cookie-cutter clothes found in chain stores or the mall. "Nobody sells exactly the same clothes that we do," explained Jason. There are clothes from Mooks, Private Circle, Lithium, Kappa, Echo and Maurice Malone. Coming soon to the store is the brand Cheap Thrill which Amiel describes as being a little more "girly girly" than their current selection. A lot of the clothes come in unconventional fabrics. A white Private Circle wraparound skirt is made from a tarp-like nylon, yet it would look great under a blue light. The clothes carried by Together World are also practical. A blue sleeveless hoodie from Mooks is made from trendy waxed cotton that is also breathable. Perfect for those stuffy and crowded parties.

When asked how she chooses which clothes to sell in the store, Amiel shyly acknowledged that she basically buys whatever she likes. Slender and topped with a spiky platinum blonde hair, Amiel is dressed in a green and white muscle tee and a little khaki rip-stop skirt that can also be seen hanging across the room. She tries to stay ahead of fashion by picking out trends and buying internationally. "America is really behind. We deal with different countries. A lot of our brands come from Canada," says Amiel. As well as carrying clothes from international companies, the store also supports local brands, such as the skateboard clothing brand Horizon.

All the brands that the store carries work well on the streets and in a party. Targeting the party-going 18 to 30 year-old market, Together World sells clothes specifically designed

for adults. No children's sizes here. Women can choose from cropped tops, short skirts, sleeveless shirts and dresses that highlight the body and exude a sporty feel. Men have an array of baggy pants in ripstop and other technical fabrics as well as racing striped shirts.

Together World's clothes are all reasonably priced, especially for its Cherry Creek location. According to Jason, the most expensive piece of clothing currently stocked costs $70 and prices will only reach $120 for winter coats later in the season.
