THURSDAY AUGUST 3
While Napster is being sued by Metallica
and Dr. Dre for distributing their music
online for free, hip-hop/alterna-rockband
LIMP BIZKIT was inspired by the
works of the company. Getting music for
free on the Internet gave the band the idea
to do a complete free tour ... with Napster
as their big sponsor. The band will be
traveling around the U.S. for a month,
giving free shows on multiple days so
that everyone has the chance to see the
band. They're taking fellow rock/rap
band CYPRESS HILL along with them.
Limp Bizkit, who gained fame with their
kick-ass cover of George Michael's
Faith and had a big hit last year with
their single Nookie, is using the tour as
a promotion for their new album, which
should be in the stores by September.
Cypress Hill, known for Insane in the
Brain in the early ‘90's, just released
their newest album. The bands will be
doing two free shows at the Ogden, on
August 3 and 4. Valerie van de Flier
FRIDAY AUGUST 4
First Friday Art Walks, on Tennyson St.
in Cherry Creek, offer a continuance of
the annual Cherry Creek Arts Festival,
albeit on a much smaller scale. Five gal-leries
will be showing new works from 6-
11 p.m., but the star of this lineup is
Laura Klein's photography, a show called
REALM OF THE SENSUAL pre-sented
by Lapis Gallery. Also showing is
a form study by Michael D. Rieger, one
of Lapis' three Riegers-in-Residence (see
Go-Go Issue 13 for an examination of
Eric Rieger's work). In case you miss the
Art Walk, the show will continue until
September 5. Chris J. Magyar
SATURDAY AUGUST 5
Every art form has its mind-boggling
feats of stamina. Classical music has
opera, poetry has the epic, film has the
six-hour, three-part retrospective ... and
ravers have SUN FESTIVAL 2000. The
numbers are mind-boggling: 18 hours,
113 DJs, at least seven stages, and $30 to
get in at the door. If you go to the last outdoor
party of the year, be sure to bring a
Daytimer, since so many DJs are playing
that it will be hard to even find your
favorites. For more information, call
Roofless on any of its information
lines 303-575-5669, 303-331-2294,
303-267-2067 or visit
www.roofless.com.

SUNDAY AUGUST 6
In one night, there will be music, hairstyling,
dance and fashion. The event,
presented by Chart Gallery, is called
MOVE, and it's a collaborative effort by
the Denver art community to benefit The
Spot, an organization that provides artistic
support to local youths. The whole
shebang will start at 8 p.m. at The Roxy
(25th and Welton). What will happen next
is a bit of a mystery, but it's sure to be
mind-blowing. Just take a look at the participants
and sponsors: Cleo Parker
Robinson Dance Training Group, Soul
Haus, The Mercury Café, Babooshka
Hair Company, Just Right Photography,
Zenith Restaurant, and, of course, The
Roxy are all lending a hand. Famous
remix DJ Michael Donaldson, a.k.a. Q-Burns,
will be headlining the event.
Tickets are $15 at the door. For more
information call 303-861-1947. CJM
MONDAY AUGUST 7
If your life's dream is to have your face
appear on TNT, and your idea of a good
time includes women in leather outfits
pulling hair, then you'd better make your
way to the Pepsi Center. WCW
MONDAY NITRO (the great-uncle of
WWF Smackdown!) will roll into town
with all the hair-pulling, chair smashing,
microphone screaming action you can
shake a two-by-four at. Yeah, Goldberg
and pals might be decent wrestlers, but I
bet none of them can headlock a dish of
fine cuisine like our wrestler-in-residence
Bobby Black. Long live the Reverend!

TUESDAY AUGUST 8
Are you ready for an old school, right-off-
the-street, stop-the-bullshit, serious
rap concert again? Then the WU-TANG
CLAN concert is something you don't
want to miss. They've been around since
‘93 when they released their debut CD
Enter the Wu-Tang. Just recently they
came out with their long-expected follow
up. Wu-Tang Forever may have left the
fans waiting for seven years, but the
members of the Clan haven't been sitting
still. Prince Rakeem, Raekwon, Ol' Dirty
Bastard, Method Man, GhostFace Killah,
Genius, U-God, Master Killa and
Inspectah Deck have all become big
names in the rap scene. Their solo careers
and side-projects have gained them
maybe even more popularity then they
already had with the Wu-Tang Clan. But
gold and platinum albums don't stop
them from working together to make the
most intense rap-album they can possibly
think of. They're a family from the street,
and those can never be torn apart.

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 9
SURVIVOR is really starting to heat
up now, and although this section is supposed
to help you get off your ass, some-times
it's nice to just drop down on the
couch and catch some quality television.
Just don't get too comfortable ... anyone
caught watching that other piece of crap
show (a.k.a. Big Brother) will be made
fun of later at the water cooler. After all if
you're going to sacrifice your privacy to
rabid television watchers, you should at
least go all out and wear a bathing suit.
CJM
THURSDAY AUGUST 10
If you've got something against body art,
please don't go see Slipknot, Nashville
Pussy, (hed)p.e., Full Devil Jacket,
Sevendust, Slayer, Puya, One Minute
Silence, Cold, UPO, Amen, Nothingface,
Relative Ash, Esham, Systematic,
Famous, Workhorse Movement,
Sepultura and Downset at the first annual
TATTOO THE EARTH FESTIVAL at
Red Rocks. Next to having all these
incredible bands on stage, there will be a
festival village, where you can get all the
body art you've ever dreamed of. There
will be internationally famous body
artists, such as Paul Booth, Steve Potts
and Sean Vasquez working their asses off
in the village to give you the chance to
get some work done by them, without
having to fly all around the country, or
even overseas.

FRIDAY AUGUST 11
Football season is
almost here (see
August 13) and
there's been a distinct
lack of inspirational
sports
m o v i e s
this summer (not that anybody minded).
To fill the, uh, void, Gene Hackman goes
into Hoosiers mode in THE
REPLACEMENTS as the coach of a
professional football team that must call
upon scabs to complete the season.
Speaking of voids, Keanu Reeves has a
speaking part (will they ever learn?) and
strippers fill in for the cheerleading
squad. You know, they just don't make
movies like this in Europe. Makes you
proud to be an American ... doesn't it?
CJM
SATURDAY AUGUST 12
Not all the good plays in town take place
at the DCPA. (In fact, some might argue
none of them take place there, but that's
another blurb, another day.) The
Hunger Artists Ensemble Theater will
attempt the regional premiere of
Robert Schenkkan's Pulitzer Prize
winning play cycle, THE
KENTUCKY CYCLE. The play
spans 200
years of American history, and follows
the trials of three different families in two
full-length parts. The first part debuts on
August 12, and the second part opens the
following weekend. Each part can stand
on its own, but to get the full impact of
this sweeping story, you really have to
see both halves. The stage is set at The
Denver Civic Theatre, 721 Santa Fe
Drive. It's only $30 to get the two-show
package ($15 per Pulitzer Prize calibre
play ... cheap!), and there are discounts
available for groups, students, seniors,
military and handicapped playgoers.
Reserve tickets by calling 303-595-3800.

SUNDAY AUGUST 13
Every year, the madness begins with the
nightly news trekking up to Greeley. The
people on the street start to get a little
dreamy on Sunday afternoons, the color
orange suddenly looks fashionable, and
the beer seems like it would taste better
outside, in a plastic cup. Yes, it's
BRONCO SEASON, and love ‘em or
hate ‘em, you can't ignore the vast sea of
people in this city who catch the disease.
The first game of the last season in Mile
High is against the Green Bay Packers,
the only team in the league who has to
deal with crazier fans than the Broncos'.
Go see the starting players loosen up for
ten minutes, then kick back and watch all
the fourth-stringers wear the uniform and
play in the grass. CJM
MONDAY AUGUST 14
Big famous rock bands can never say
goodbye just once. The Rolling Stones
are busy with their, what is it ... tenth
year of saying goodbye ... and now
there's another great band trying to follow
that example. After their magnificent
farewell world tour last year, KISS
decided it wasn't enough, or maybe they
figured that after all those years of not
touring, they really liked it again.
Whatever the reason, Denver will be witnessing
their second farewell concert, a
good year after the last one. The big
question: how long will they keep doing
it? Is this really farewell, or just another
see-ya? VvdF
TUESDAY AUGUST 15
Even if you know nothing about the
blues, even if you sail through life in a
yellow pop-happy haze, you probably
have heard of B.B. KING. For those of
us with a darker, wetter part of our soul,
B.B. King has been the crossover genius
of the blues for generations. He's coming
to town with fellow blues masters Buddy
Guy and Tommy Castro, and Grammy
darling Susan Tedeschi. There are very
few events during the year that make putting
up with Fiddler's Green's bad
acoustics, horrible seating, grouchy staff
and early curfew worthwhile. This is one
of them. CJM
WEDNESDAY AUGUST 16
She's a country crossover phenomenon,
she's a lesbian, she's been off the singing
scene for years, and she spells her name
with lowercase letters. If you can't guess
who it is, you need to start doing more TV
Guide crossword puzzles. It's K.D.
LANG, and her latest (belated) compact
disc is called Invincible Summer. She was
just in town at Red Rocks to open for Mr.
Sting (hey, anyone with that many
Grammys deserves a ‘Mr.'), and she's
coming back through to say hey to
Boulder, at the spacious Boulder Theatre.
Your constant cravings are about to be
satisfied. CJM
