This is one of the few times when we
excuse you from your civic duty to get
out. Grab family, or, if they're too crazy
to bear, grab friends for a feast to the
approach of another beautiful Colorado
winter. Oh, and what are we thankful for?
You, of course. There are some who said
we wouldn't still be here. There are some
who think we won't be around next
Thanksgiving. As long as we have the
support of readers like you, the some will
be thankful we're not reminding them to
eat crow next Turkey Day. HAPPY
THANKSGIVING!

Friday November 24, 2000
Larimer Street will shut down tonight at 7
p. m. to light the big tree and kick of
WINTERFEST 2000. The annual festi-val
of lights and sights will last until
January 2 of the new millennium, but the
best reason to go is on opening night,
when music from Denver favorite Nina
Storey will fill the air and cocktails will
fill the soul. The malls may cheat and
decorate early, but the true American
knows Holiday season kicks off the day
after Thanksgiving. Kick it off in style
this year ... kick it off with Winterfest.

Saturday November 25, 2000
So it's Thanksgiving weekend and you
need something to put your wacky family
in perspective. How about Ron Jeremy?
Yes, the RON JEREMY, star of thou-sands
of porn films and cult figure extra-ordinaire.
He's hosting an S& M
Sideshow at the SNAKE PIT that's sure
to make any clan look like a Norman
Rockwell painting in comparison.
Featuring music by the Pin Downs, guest
DJs, humor from the mullet man himself,
and dancing girls (probably the kind who
forget to wear clothes). Doors open at 9
and tickets are $17 at the door. You'll
have to leave your little cousins at
home-- it's 18 and up only. --CJM
Sunday November 26, 2000
How do you know there's a drummer at
your door? The knock keeps speeding up.
Okay, so drummers are easy to rip on, but
the fact is that drummers are musicians,
too. Colorado Symphony Orchestra percussion
masters William Hill, John
Kinzie, Terry Smith and Ted Small will
prove it tonight at CSO'S "DRUMS OF
THE WORLD," a concert dedicated to
the art of the beat. If you have an unnatural
fear of classical music, this is a good
excuse to dip the toe in the water and see
the gang at Boettcher. The all-new program
starts at 2: 30 p. m. Tickets are available
by calling 303-98-MUSIC. --CJM
Monday November 27, 2000
Slap on your lip gloss and put your hair
up in pig tails. Disney's favorite UK
imports, BB MAK, plan to perform their
hits, "Still On Your Side" and "Back
Here" at the FILLMORE AUDITORI-UM
on Colfax. This boy band has
proved to be pretty buoyant, keeping
afloat among the giants N-Sync and
Britney Spears. BBMak stands apart
from the usual bubble-gum pop by writing
and performing their own music.
You won't see any flashy moves on stage
either. This British trio just says no to
choreography. Nineteen-year-old Los
Angeles native, Jessica Riddle opens for
the boys. Tickets are $18 and the doors
open at 7: 30pm.

Don't bother with your laundry. Go
naked to the NUDE MUSIC TUES-DAYS
at CAFE CERO. These intimate
evenings strip down music to its acoustic
routes. Check out the Ryan Tracy Band's
rock, funk and reggae sound at this
evening's show. This Denver based band
has become a local favorite since it's
inception in 1999. Select wines are fea-tured
for half off and admission is free.
Get down to the bare essentials with an
inexpensive night of great music and
charming atmosphere. To find out more
about Nude Music Tuesdays, call Café
Cero at 303-282-1446. --EB
Wednesday November 29, 2000
Get ready to tap your toes to the impres-sive
sounds of French-Vietnamese per-cussionist,
LE QUAN NINH. For the
first time ever, a man known as one of the
most important percussionists of our time
is visiting Denver for one night of
improvisational jazz and experimental
melodies. Held at the MUSEUM OF
CONTEMPORARY ART in Denver,
Ninh's show will highlight contemporary
pieces laced with new technology.
Colorado Saxophonist, Jack Wright, joins
Ninh during the second half of the con-cert.
Purchase your tickets now for only
$10 ($ 8 for students). Don't miss out on
your chance to see this world-renowned
percussionist's Denver premiere. --EB

Are your walls looking a little bare?
Come to the opening reception of the
ARVADA CENTER'S 14TH ANNUAL
ART MARKET and find tons of original
artwork to choose from. Not only can
you decorate your apartment, but you can
also spruce yourself up. Browse through
the various booths, showcasing jewelry,
pottery, photos and crafts. All proceeds
go toward Colorado artists and the
Arvada Center's museum and gallery
programs. The sale runs from 10am-8pm
daily and admission is free --EB

The touring BANFF MOUNTAIN
FILM FESTIVAL lands in Denver at the
TIVOLI CENTER and REI Center for
three days beginning tonight. Sponsored
locally by Breckenridge Brewery and
nationally by National Geographic and
Eagle Creek Travel Gear, Banff showcases
the best adventure films in North
America year after year. Climbing, biking,
skiing, snowboarding-- it's all up on
the big screen, looming high and making
you feel bad for sitting on your duff
almost all year long. If you need the
inspiration to get out more often (as if this
little calendar isn't enough), these gorgeous
images should do the trick. Tickets
are available by calling 303-893-FILM.

Say what you will about the enigmatic C.
AXL CONES (and we will, in next
issue's cover story), he's a softie on the
inside. Well, soft and kind of squishy,
much like the rest of us ... but he's doing
something many of us can't: filming his
own TV SHOW TO BENEFIT THE
CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL. The
event-- an extension of Axl's regular
cable-access show "The Cone Zone"--
will feature Symmetry, Cherry Wood,
Peace Love & Destruction, Rocket Ajax
and Sick playing their asses off for the
always-raucous Iliff Park Saloon crowd.
Only $10 makes your heart feel good,
your head feel sore, and your ears wonder
what the hell just happened. --CJM
Sunday December 3, 2000
Okay, here's the deal, and it's a simple
one. The OGDEN. Tonight. RANCID,
A. F. I., THE DISTILLERS. $13. If you
haven't already picked up the phone to
buy tickets, there's something wrong with
your knowledge of music. Three bands
destined to become punk rock legends for
less than it costs to eat dinner downtown?
You've got to be kidding us. And by the
way, we have photographic proof that
The Distillers love us. Take that, Laura
Bond. --CJM

Specializing in vintage religious icons
and hand painted Italian ceramics,

opening today. Altar will be showcasing
the work of artist JACK PADOTA.

images, Padota's work will be available
for sale as post cards and magnets.
Padota is a nationally known artist whose
work has been featured in the hit show,
the X-Files. To catch this show, scoot on
down to the Altar boutique at 1229 East
6th Avenue, Denver. Admission is free.

In the mood for a little fine art? Take in
some contemporary art covering three
different mediums. The RON JUDISH
FINE ARTS STUDIO is exhibiting the
drawings of New York artist, KEITH
MILOW. Along with Milow, the studio
is featuring the works of Denver photog-rapher,
KEVIN O'CONNEL and local
sculptor, JOSHUA DALEY. The Ron
Judish Studio is open from 11am-6pm on
Tuesday through Friday and 12pm-5pm
on Saturday. Admission is free. --EB

Another Wednesday, another lack of
compelling events to get you out of the
house. Well, once again the Internet is
here to help. This time it's in the form of
WWW.MIGHTYFUDGE.COM, which
is yet another streaming animation site
FEATURING CHARACTERS NETWORK
TV WOULD BAN. You can
either thrill to the adventures of Slimmy
(a, um, member of the male gender) or
chill to the adventures of Ganjamon (a
super hero who flies really high). There's
more riotous cartoons on the world wide
web, but Mighty Fudge doesn't skimp on
the length of each cartoon. Time will fly
and before you know it, you'll have spent
another night indoors, alone. Shoot, we
were supposed to be helping with that
problem, weren't we? --CJM
