Metafolic in Latin translates: "to transform hair to a higher level." The Metafolics Salon on 11th and Bannock plans to do just that. A full service hair salon-- including makeovers, massages, and manicuring-- Metafolics is committed to "being the place to make people feel good," said owner Jason Linkow. The salon itself, furnished in a combination of modern steel and organic curves, invites clients to relax and "not feel like they are in a sterile laboratory," Linkow said. Client comfort is also achieved by offering professional stylists, who are treated to monthly refresher classes on new cuts, color, and a "self enrichment curriculum." Said Linkow, "Have you ever had one of those really great cuts by a weird stylist? We don't want people to leave here worried about our stylists' personal lives."
This season blooms at Metafolics Salon in easiercare spring cuts and color. "We are seeing softer shapes for spring with a return to glamour," Linkow said. "We are adding layers at the interior crown to produce more volume." "Block hair coloring and stark streaks are fazing out," Linkow added. "We are moving into more dimensional tone on tones-- like a blonde tone on blonde-- with texturing to blend."
"And men's styles are getting slightly longer," Linkow added, "with cuts you wouldn't look at and call a mullet, but they are shorter in the front and slightly longer in the back." Sandy Brum, a Metafolics hair and makeover stylist, said, "Spring and summer are bringing in bright colors in makeup, such as turquoise and green." "Sheer looks, like bronzing stains, are replacing heavy foundations," Brum added, "and a glossy fruit stain or glossy nude lip with no eyeliner add up to a softer and younger look. But don't throw all your bright red lipsticks away. Mix it with vitamin E or lip conditioner to achieve the softer lip."
Brum, who is known for her makeovers in the Denver Post's style section, uses Trucco Sebastian products on her clients. Brum will be hosting "Spring Forward"-- a spring styleoriented makeover session April 1 from 11 a. m. to 3 p. m.-- flying in a Trucco representative from Germany. "I don't have a dollar quota or require my clients to buy a certain amount," Brum said. "Some [makeover specialists] convince people to buy over $300 worth of product, and once they get it all home, the client can't remember what to do with half of it. I want to try to change that."
"I don't want people to be intimated by their makeovers," Brum added. "We do all our consultations oneonone, so you can be comfortable whether you wear a little or a lot." "We are focused on our client's satisfaction rather than the stylist's gratification," said Linkow. "We have stylists who are trendy and streetinspired as well as stylists who are more conservative and traditional.
