GET JAZZEDWe love you. We really do. Maybe not in that let's-get-busy, your-place-or-mine way ... but at least in a best-friends-for-life way; yeah, we love you. To prove it, we're giving away free music-- a sampler CD from Blue Note featuring the music of Soullive, Charlie Hunter, John Scofield, Karl Denson, Medeski Martin & Wood, Mos Def, and more. All you have to do is be one of the first 100 people to send us an e-mail with the following information:
1. Your name, age, and address; By the way, you don't need to bother telling us how much you love Siren Chat and the Tattooed Food Critic. We know. I get 10 or 15 e-mails singing their praises every week. We get the message, loud and clear. We're very proud to have Bobby and Stephanie on board, and they'll both continue to churn out the great columns. So show us some love back, and let us know what you think. And remember, Go-Go readers are always entitled to a free hug by any member of our staff simply by coming to our office. And, yeah, except for the nerdy editor, all our staff members are hot, baby, YEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAHH.
COMMON GROUNDS?Dear Editor: While Muddy's and The Black Pearl have given up the ghost in the literal sense, Common Grounds died a soul death. Though I'm a wee bit embarrassed to admit this, I fondly remember several late-night sessions of "Magic: The Gathering" there with similarly nerdy friends while numerous proto-goths smoked cloves. The management must have been bought out (or, more likely, become sick of hearing Monty Python quoted with gusto), because one trip downtown yielded closed doors and the current corporate makeover. This was about the same time as the Black Pearl's demise. Muddy's held on as the greatest coffee shop in Denver for a few more years, then the landscape was left with virtually nothing. There seems to be a small revival of hometown coffee shops in Denver-- Buzz, Stella's (which now houses the wannabe beatnik high school scene), Cabot's (see page 7). Still, the fact remains that only St. Mark's survived the microbrewery boom in Denver intact, and an entire generation of teenage nerds will never know what they're missing as they sit in Starbucks and talk about who will play Anakin Skywalker in Episode II. CORRECTIONS, ETC.In last issue's cover story "Little Miss Monica" [ www.gogomagazine.com/0308/coverstory.html], Buzz Fill 'Er Up Cafe was mistakenly placed at 12th and Downing. The drive-through/sit-down coffee shop is actually caddy-corner from the Esquire Theatre, on 6th Avenue between Downing and Marion. Also, the mention of Monica Moonlight's show at The Bug actually referred to her show at Buzz. Never has one coffee shop been so maligned in one article. Our apologies. Also in that issue, our interviewer mistakenly transcribed Nigel Richard's quote [ www.gogomagazine.com/0308/frontpage.html]--" I enjoy the ecstasy background" should have read, "I enjoy the ecstasy backrub." Since Mr. Richard's is an avid proponent of drug-free dance culture, we sincerely regret the error. --Chris J. Magyar All Rights Reserved © 2001 Go-Go Media, LLC |
