Sometimes it pays to have connections. A
friend of mine recently sent this e-mail:
“On Thursday May 24 my brother is
coheadlining at the Bluebird. Want to go
and write a cool review of them? APPARENTLY,
he’s in a band called DJ OR and
the Lyrical Surgeons (!) in which he
raps (I’ve read some of his lyrics and
they’re surprisingly good). His nickname
is “Seven Foot Worm” ... OBVIOUSLY.
The other band headlining are the Myre
Funkeys, another band to come tearing
out of Cherry Creek. I’ve never heard
them either, but I hear they’re all the rage.
Who knows?” Scalpel.

Bluegrass fans, ten hut! Grab the gigantic
gas-guzzling van and drag its ass over the
mountains for the Western Colorado
Bluegrass Festival in Grand Junction
this Memorial Day Weekend. The three-day
festival features such outfits as Open
Road, Lost Highway, Flinthill Special,
and Wing and a Prayer. Tickets are $16 a
day for $48 for the whole enchilada, and
festivities take place at the Grand
Junction Adam’s Mark Hotel ... possibly
the least Appalachian place on Earth, but
oh well.

It’s an all-star lineup of locals tonight at
The Soiled Dove, as Yo Flaco! joins
nGomA and Bushtic on the hottest stage
to hit in town right now. Reese and Dap
of nGomA don’t put on many shows, but
when they do, people buzz about them for
months.

If you like camping and music and lots of
other people who like camping and music
... stroll on up to Fort Collins for The
Great Poudre Sally at Mishawaka
Amphitheatre. Running With Sally, Zeut,

Michelle & The Book Of Runes will all
be jamming the night away for a mere $7

Everybody and their brother is going to
spew exhaust up the I-70 corridor to get a
first look at the wilderness today—what
else do the unimaginative do on a day
off? We suggest celebrating the holiday it
was meant to be celebrated: gawk at some
gravestones. Check out Fort Logan
National Cemetery’s collection of
interred veterans at 3698 S. Sheridan
Blvd. for some beauty tombstones. Don’t
get too excited, goth-aholics—the
grounds are only open during daylight
hours.

David Gray wiggles his head so much
when he's playing piano, you'd think he
has one of those battery-operated
ferrets-chasing-the-ball things in his skull. He's
playing tonight at the Fillmore with "Ally
McBeal" tunesmith Fisher (the one they
call when Vonda Shepard's sick), but it's
sold out, so all you AAA geeks will just
have to buy the album or wear short skirts
by the backstage door.

Face it, you’re not drunk enough right
now. Dash on over to the Palomino Euro
Bistro (1515 Arapahoe St.) where, from 6
to 9 p.m., chef Duke LoCicero and bever-age
specialist Tony Abou-Ganim will
teach you how to throw a posh cocktail
party. Mixed drinks and tempting grilled
dishes will be demonstrated for any idiot
who wants to enter the jet set. The
evening is presented by Southern
Comfort, natch. All you’ve got to do to
get a free invitation is put up with the
navigation hell of
www.denver.city-search.com for ten minutes. Party on,
Garth!

Superstar DJ Sandra Collins headlines
tonight at the recently resurrected
Church. From a humble start in Phoenix
to her current gig at Tranceport 3 (with
stopoffs at Twilo and with Frankie Bonez
in between), Collins is arguably the most
successful female DJ in history. Tonight’s
sure to be electrifying. More information
available at

The Spark Gallery opens its Wasteland
exhibit tonight, featuring the works of
Annalee Schorr, an artist interested in the
trivial images of everyday life becoming
elevated to art. Among the many conver-sation
pieces are enlarged contact sheets
of television screen caps (one shows an
Avalanche game competing with an
Olson twin), and blown up TV shots
obscured by paint (such as an X’ed out
Timothy McVeigh). Also showing is John
Davenport, whose stark photographs eas-ily
conjure up the “Wasteland” theme.
Spark is located at 1535 Platte Street. The
reception runs from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m.,
and the show continues through June 17.
Visit
www.sparkgallery.org for more
information.

Just in case you haven’t seen them yet,
the Down-N-Outs, the punk band with
the biggest organ in town, are playing the
15th Street Tavern tonight. If you scream
loud, they’ll show it to you. See if lead
singer’s Michael Daboll’s microphone
will electrocute him tonight [
www.gogomagazine.com/0227/music.html]. As
with any 15th Street show, ticket prices
are negligible.

Today’s the closing of the 30th Annual
CHUN People’s Fair in Civic Center
Park. A complete lineup of every band is
in the concert calendar, but today’s high-lights
include performances by Judge
Roughneck, Xiren, Kristina Ingham,
Opie Gone Band, and just about any other
local band on the tip of your tongue. Even
more information about this great festival
can be found at

Do you sit around at work playing games
on the Internet? Sure, we all do. Might as
well supplement that unearned salary
with some unearned winnings: check out
www.gamesville.com for some of the
most addictive and possibly lucrative
games on the ‘net. You gotta love a site
with the motto “Wasting Your Time Since
1996” even if it is owned by Lycos now.

In our last issue’s summer concert guide
www.gogomagazine.com/0310/coverstory.
html
html we mentioned the awesome
Red Rocks Amphitheatre movie series, in
which bands open up for classic movies.
Well, we were a wee bit misleading about
the opener of the series, Evolution, pre-sented
by Opie Gone Bad. While every
other movie this summer is a mere $5 to
$8, Evolution is a premiere, and so tickets
are only available with a special hook up.
Fear not: the hook up is at
www.redrocksonline.com... go there to see how you
can check the show tonight for free!

YTwin pretty boys from Atlanta invade the
Colorado Music Hall in the Springs
tonight. Why do I get the feeling Evan &
Jaron are really just cloned androids
cooked up in some record label execu-tive’s
super secret take-over-the-world
lab? Oh well, might as well pay the $10
just to see what all the high pitched
screaming is about.
