STYLE

LOVE PARADE

Bare feet, vintage goods, and free love -- aren't reserved for just middleaged hippies anymore. The dawning of Aquarius is thriving in downtown gear -- and the kids are wearing it well. Recycled clothing is on the rise in the bold bohemian scene, and this look states "anything goes"-- well almost.

"I think that anything can be in style," said Amy Fantastic, bassist of Rainbow Sugar. "It's how you pull it off that counts."

Jaysin Fail-- a hairdresser who claims to be an aspiring trapeze artist-- agreed, "Eclectic clothing is really in style, as long as things are thrown together well."

Jessica IversFrederick is a manager at The Buffalo Exchange in Denver. IversFrederick notices a resurgence in an '80s trash look fashion trend. "Anything that's in style right now is out of style. The 'Cherry Creek Mall look' is teenage girls dressed up to look like 12-year-old whores-- it's terrible. Being 'in' is 'out'."

Rainbow Sugar's drummer, Germain Bow, said to achieve this look, you mix your own character with your own style. "My style is influenced by my own high energy and having fun. It's like finding your own inner weirdo."

"My main influence is '80s and death," said Peter Bailey, an aspiring singer and struggling photographer who also works at Buffalo Exchange. When asked about what is currently in style, Bailey simply replied, "me."

Not since the early '80s has used clothing been so in vogue. However, this thrifty trend may just be a new millennium's apropos farewell with one last glance to the past decade. "Right now, there is a little bit of everything going on," added Fail. "The year 2001 is a great big melting pot for fashion." --Kity Ironton
