This isn't the first time we've told you to
check it out. It won't be the last. Club
Wave hosts Drag Queen Bingo every
Thursday night for your pleasure,
whether you be gay, straight, in between,
or somewhere outside the lines. All attendance
takes at this raucous night of
improv comedy and olde tyme bingo is
guts. Or should I say balls? The men are
separated from the boys in the infamous
strip bingo round. And the shots flow like
... uh ... chocolate cake. (That one will
make sense after your first trip.) Bingo
cards are $5. Don't use the word 'bitch'
unless you're a pro. Wave is located at
2101 Champa.

guest MC, and a secret member of Go-Go's
staff will be on hand to judge the
show. If you want to find out who, buy a

Tonight is the last night to see the Denver
debut of artist Doug Craft at Core New
Art Space. Craft combines his background
in science with an eye for strong
visuals inspired by mathematical proportions to create strong statements about the
world around us. If the work doesn't
blow you away, pick up Craft's supplementary
notes, where he describes, in
mathematical detail, the process behind
his work. The gallery is at 2045 Laimer
Street, and is open today from noon to 5
pm --SW

"I think I've never seen / Nothing more
beautiful than Gallery 13." Okay, we're
journalists, not poets. But if you have an
ear or a hand at the spoken word, stop by
Gallery 13 at 1215 E. 13th St. Each
Monday, the gallery hosts an open poetry
reading from 7: 30 to 9 pm While you're
there, check out the current show First
Contact, featuring artists Edis, Charles
Degraaf and Steve McDole. --SW

For the last several months, Erick Roorda
and Jill Warner have worked non stop to
transform a one-time Colfax pharmacy to
a funky retro furnishings store. Their
work is now complete and must be seen.
Stop by to see the entire Kitsch and
Caboodle tonight at Mod Livin’ at 5327
E. Colfax. The store, which is open until
7 p.m., has an impressive collection of
mid-century and space age furnishings,
including classic designs such as
Barcelona and Eames chairs. It doesn’t
get any funkier. --SW

Tonight will bring a close to the Second
Annual Film on the Rocks series with a
screening of the hilarious Priscilla,
Queen of the Desert shown after getting
down and dirty with a set from Denver's
blues woman, Hazel Miller. The idea of
showing movies on the big screen at Red
Rocks should have started years ago ...
sights and sounds while sitting under the
stars. What a combination! Check it
out-- this is your last chance for the 2001
season. --Sally Miller

Noise and music have existed in a tenuous
state of harmony since the phrase
'avant garde' became an unavoidable part
of the English language. Tonight's opening
for the Raw Material IV: the X-Y-Z
Axis Festival shows off Denver's version
of the noise/ music blend on the cutting
edge scene. The show at 7 South
Broadway will emphasize "electronic-noize-
industrial-art performance aspects
of electronic musicians." The next three
nights will take place at Banyan Market
(1645 S. Broadway). Performers included
in the four-day festival are In Ether, Page
27, Avocado Cabal, Neil Haverstick, Sci
Fi Uterus, Xiren, and those crazy puppets
from Mystery Sandbox Theatre. Tickets
are $5 a night, or $16 for all four shows.

When you hit middle age, you get a little
soft in the belly, and David Mamet is no
exception. Sure, things are more comfortable
now, with him making solid movies
like The Spanish Prisoner and State and
Main, but this is not the stuff that originally
got, or would have gotten, Mamet
noticed. Mamet's best work is about men
without women; grim, feral and jagged
spectacles which send you reeling like a
sucker punch on a whiskey hangover. The
Tony Award-winning Glengarry Glen
Ross, opening tonight at the Denver Civic
Theater, is vintage Mamet. This play is
about real estate hucksters who can't
make a sale and tear into each other.

Let's face it. The reason we live in
Colorado is on the western horizon. Since
summer is almost over, grab the gorp and
head west on I-70 to Exit 218, where you
can take a 4 mile hike along the Herman
Gulch trail, which ends at a crystal alpine
lake. Wildflowers and amazing views
make the journey worthwhile. On your
way back to town, stop in for a cold one
at Tommyknockers brewery in Idaho
Springs. Then call your friends in Illinois
and rub it in. --SW

You're getting on the hog today anyway.
Why not ride it for breast cancer? The
Motorcycle Ride for Breast Cancer
begins 9: 30 am at Zang Brewery (2301
7th St. near Ocean Journey), goes to the
Kersey Inn for lunch, then winds up at
The Soiled Dove in LoDo for a concert
with Brethren Fast and Tab Benoit & The
Shuckers. All this, and a t-shirt, costs $30,
and benefits the It's All Good
Foundation, a charity that provides quality
wigs and image councelling to women
suffering from the side effects of
chemotherapy treatment. To register, go
to www.itsallgood.com
or call 303-777-2886. --CJM

When was the last time you saw Denver
Joe? What? Never? Check out the hardest
working man in local show business
tonight (or any Monday night, for that
matter) at Cricket On The Hill, on 13th
Avenue near Downing. --CJM
Tuesday August 28, 2001
Did you know that today's date, the 28th,
adds up to 10? If you take the two and put
it with the eight it does. Then the 10 you
get, if you add those digits, magically
shrinks down to one. Fun math games
like these are all that's going on tonight.
Catch up on Bob Ross reruns. --CJM
Wednesday August 29, 2001
Forget all those "X Files" reruns. This is
the real thing. Since your walking legs
are still sore from Saturday, crash in front
of the computer and log on to The
Smoking Gun at www.smokinggun.com
The editors of this fine site post collections
of revealing government documents
(High Times seems to be a the favorite
mag for DEA agents), as well as some
pretty eccentric backstage requests for
several celebrities (Apparently, Live
loves to live it up with soft draperied
backstage rooms with no American or
Velveeta cheeses in sight). --SW
