Mike Patton (Faith No More) has gathered
a few of the Who's Whos in the
world of rock to create one hell of a sick
experimental sound to knock you off your
ass. In addition to Patton, Fantomas features
Buzz Osbourne of the Melvins,
Dave Lombardo (Slayer's old drummer)
and Mr. Bungle's bassist Trevor Dunn.
Together, these guys give life to the creative
demons of Patton's demented mind.
Tonight, at the Bluebird.

The most oft quoted film in geekdom
returns to the screen of silver tonight.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail is
being rereleased at the Esquire with a
brand new soundtrack and 24 seconds of
never-before-seen footage. The origins of
this project are suspect; apparently the 24
seconds of extra film now cause the
movie to float. A tribunal of silly
Englishmen has been gathered to decide
whether or not to burn the reels for being
a witch. --Chris J. Magyar

Out to promote its latest CD, The John
Butler Trio has landed some high profile
opening slots, including tonight's performance
with legendary Taj Mahal at the
Fillmore. As lead singer and vocalist,
Butler has built a huge reputation in his
native Australia, and brings his band to
the United States for the first time. The
new record, Three, is musically exciting,
fresh, and innovative. Butler combines a
blues groove with some straight rockers,
but his guitar sound, great riffs and songwriting
ability lift him above the average
rock star. Think an Aussie Chris Whitley,
think rock-n-blooze. Get to the show
early to catch the whole set.

Hey y'all. It's time to go back to school.
Why not spend the night with your
favorite dog? No, not Lassie, Snoop
Dogg. The Doggfather will be at
Fiddler's Green tonight headlining his
Back to School Jam with Redman,
Doggy's Angels, The Dogg Pound, Bad
Azz, Soopafly and Butch Cassidy without
the Sundance Kid. Sorry, he didn't make
the cut. Anyway, there is a great line up so
get there on time and catch it all.

Meet one of Denver's finest local bands.
King Rat, a punk rock band, is visiting
the Back Alley Lounge in Fort Collins
tonight in one of its first shows of its West
Coast tour. King Rat is a full on rock
band that likes to jam hard and loud. With
"heartfelt energy" and phenomenal
power, you'll be missing a great time if
you fail to attend. You'll find out the next
day, after talking to friends who did go,
that it was an awesome show and you'll
regret not going. --MP

And tonight's special is ... Ratt, served
up on a platter. Our fair city welcomes
these '80s hair metal veterans, LA's first
generation of glam, to the Gothic Theatre.
Though the music goes back 20 years,
these guys still sound hard and tight. Ratt
may look a bit worn, but who wouldn't
after going "round and round?" The best
part of this show will be checking out the
band's die-hard fans, if you can believe
they still exist. --SM

Hailed as musical pioneers and cultural
emissaries for South Africa, LadySmith
Black Mambazo will take the Boulder
Theater into a captivating world of love,
God, apartheid, homelessness, and
human rights. The 10-man a cappella
group was made most famous through
Paul Simon's mid-'80s release,
Graceland. Simon was enthalled by the
mbube singing style and the amazing
intricate vocal harmonies and accompanying
dance steps of the group. The seven
basses and three tenors manage to sing
about life's hardships and joys with an
equally jubilant and radiant style. A show
not to be missed. --JB

I'm gonna be blunt here. Go see Jupiter
Coyote tonight at Redfish in Boulder.
JC's a southern rock, improv band who is
one of the hardest working touring acts
today, handling all its own operations
itself. Formed in 1990 and on the road for
200 days a year, Jupiter Coyote shows no
signs of slowing up. In fact, it just
released another studio album titled
Waxing Moon. --MP

Tour kids, what are you seeing before you
go on tour this fall? Why not come see
the improvisation of some of your
favorite artists out of their own bands and
put together to form this Comotion.
Featuring Michael Kang, Mike Marshall,
Paul McCandless, Tye North, Jeff Sipe,
Darol Anger and Aaron Johnston, these
guys combine bluegrass/ folk with a
smooth jazz that will glisten your ears all
night. Their resumes speak for themselves.
Performing at the Mishawaka, one
of the coolest venues in Colorado set
right alongside the Poudre River, you'll
have a better time than checking out Joe
Blow at some local bar that you can probably
see them at next Friday. Don't forget
your glowsticks and hoola-hoops,
because it wouldn't be a show without
them. --MP

A bit disturbed because you can't find
anything to do tonight? Well don't be.
Tonight headlining at the Fillmore is
Disturbed. The Chicago-based band is
headlining its second major tour while its
latest single "Down With The Sickness"
has climbed to number 14 on Billboards
Modern Rock Chart. Now that is sick. So
come on out and see what all the fuss is
about. I'm sure they'd love to see you.
And if nothing else, at least you're being
social. --MP

So it's Sunday. You've done your partying
and you want to put off your chores, so
you set aside some time to work on that
screenplay you've been dealing with for
years. You know, the one about the homosexual
android who befriends a talking
cat? Well, hurry up, because October 1 is
the deadline to enter that screenplay into
the Eighth Annual Screenwriter's
Project, a contest sponsored by Cyclone
Entertainment Group. At least three writ-ers
will be chosen to receive a $5,000
grant and a possible production deal.
Screenplays, novels, short stories, synopses, and treatments are all acceptable.

The infamous Earth, Wind and Fire are
giving the real treat to you. For more than
30 years now, Earth, Wind and Fire has
been performing and entertaining the
world with their "energetic rhythms" and
sound like no other. And this time they
brought some friends along. They will be
at Fiddler's Green tonight with Rufus featuring
Chaka Khan. Now, I know it's a
Monday night and you have to get up for
school or work tomorrow, but if you
haven't seen EWF live before, here's your
chance. And if you have, it never hurts to
catch them one more time. --MP

What can I say about this show except
that it is for a good cause with a great
lineup? How many times have you tossed
a coin into a well wishing for peace and it
hasn't come true? Well, I'm not saying by
going to this show it will come true, but it
is the Plea For Peace Tour featuring
Hotwater Music, Strike Anywhere,
Cadillac Blindside, Selby Tigers, Zero
Zero, Mike Park and Thrice. By attending
the event you will be a contributing factor
toward strives taken for peace and that
has got to feel good considering your
dream never came true. --MP

Denver's best kept secret is no longer a
secret. Wednesday nights, the Snake Pit
host Denver's one and only British pop
night, Shag. Vespas parked out front,
while intellectual hipsters inside dance
and frolic about to the fabulous tunes
spun by DJs Matthew Smyth and David
Watts. You will be enveloped by the
sounds of every song that you used to
love, but never hear at all the lame "save
the wave" clubs around town. To quench
your thirst, the bar offers $2.50 British
beers and Beefeater gin specials all night.
All this for the low low price of a $3
cover. Come down and get your mojo on.
