Just in time for that spooky time of
year, A Skull in Connemara emerges
from the catacombs of the Space
Theatre. It's a harrowing play, with references
to horses, death, and Irish lore
(more harrowing than most lore). The
Space knows how to throw down, trust
me.

America loves Gallagher, or so they
say. Well, the man whose trademark is
the Sledge-O-Matic returns to Denver
tonight to perform at the Paramount
Theatre. Most of you are probably
familiar with Gallagher, but if you are
not, it's a comedy show. However, it's
not your typical comedic act. As a
member of the audience, you risk going
home with melon pulp or lumps of cottage
cheese in your hair. In addition to
the flying food, Gallagher incorporates
social and political commentary only he
can deliver. He's a terrific performer
giving 110% each show and fans
always get their money's worth.

This evening, the Bluebird Theater
becomes the backdrop for Robert
Walter's 20th Congress, a notoriously
tight and tasty quintet that seems to be
breaking, rather than making, all the
rules. Walter began as a keyboardist for
the Greyboy All-Stars, and now leads
his band and the audience through
thick, funky jazz grooves with a decisive
New Orleans, pre-bebop flavor.
Watch as Walter and Co. start to stretch
the boundaries between 1970s funk and
the jazz roots that got us there.

Something wicked this way
comes.... with it's own psychopathic
tendencies along for the ride. The
Ogden Theater becomes home to a harrowing
overflow of Faygo aimed to amp up the fanatic Juggalos in crazy
makeup. It can only be the Insane
Clown Posse Hatchet Rising Tour
bringing the "message" of its Dark
Carnival to all the young folks who can
afford the ticket price. ICP spreads its
black magic to the masses in anticipation
of its next album, Sixth Joker's
Card coming in summer 2002. Twiztid
and Blaze Ya Dead Homie get the party
started.

Here we go again with that ethnic jangle--
er, jungle-- er, worldbeat triphop.
Check in with the Afro-Celt
Soundsystem at the Boulder Theatre.
Endorsed by Peter Gabriel Himself,
these electronic and traditional sounds
will keep you dancing all the way to
your travel agent.

Some have called him the next Ben
Harper, and his admirers include
Garrett Dutton, a.k.a G. Love (minus
the Special Sauce). Tonight,
singer/ songwriter Jack Johnson brings
his Hawaiian surf vibes to the Gothic
Theater, hoping to warm our chilly
autumn nights. With soft vocals and
great tunes, Johnson is balancing a
career as surf film maker and surprise
hit maker. Jack of all trades? Johnson's
tour supports his latest CD, Brushfire
Fairytales.

The closest you can come to electronics
using instruments...that's the sound
that Sound Tribe Sector 9 delivers playing
tonight in Fort Collins. A unique
band in itself, Sector 9 jams improvisational,
electronic sounding sessions that
are truly amazing. No other band is
quite like this one. Head up to the Fort
tonight and catch these guys at the
Aggie Theater and check something
different out.

The Arvada Center does it again with
Music With a View Scenes, an
aural/ visual collaboration project so
many of us thirst for. This is a beautiful
mix of tunes and art not for the guy
with whooping cough. Bring a cleansed
artistic palate and have a good time.

Premiering tonight at the Theatre On
Broadway is Never The Sinner.
Dubbed "The Crime of the Century,"
it's about two teenagers, 18 and 19
years old, who were labeled the "Thrill
Killers" for murdering a 14-year-old
boy as an experiment. It's an exciting
play starring Jim Hunt, Marc Burg,
Brian Malgrave and others that shouldn't
be missed on this Friday night. I'll
plan on seeing you there.

At 60, Bob Dylan visits the Denver
Coliseum in support of his forty-third
album, Love & Theft. Dylan continues to
outsmart even the most astute critics by putting
out a record that seems more Tin Pan
Alley than aging folk singer. In his forty
year career, Dylan's live shows draw from a
huge catalog of material, but expect a good
deal from his latest effort. Dylan's curling
vocals and rasping sneers will delve into
rockabilly, vaudeville, and his own brand of
psychedelic American blues. He brings no
opening act, so get there early.

Want to support the NY City firefighters
and have a good romp? The Ogden Theatre
brings Drop Kick Murphys, Sick of It All,
and Tiger Army onstage to shred up some
funds to lend a hand. Punk's not dead, no
way.

I hope you plan on going out tonight
because I have just the place for you to
go. I realize it's a Tuesday night but
hear me out. Tonight, CITRUS is hosting
the Vogue/ VH1 Fashion Awards
Party. It's OK if you don't care for
fashion because there will be a full bar
and dancing all night long to follow the
show. --MP

Strangefolk, a Burlington, Vt. based
band is visiting the Gothic Theatre
tonight and it's something you should
probably get out and see. Starting in
the early 90's and heavily influenced by
blue grass, Strangefolk has come a long
way performing nearly 200 gigs a year.
Today, their influences include rock,
folk and blues to go along with the
bluegrass roots from the early days.
Now they climbing their way to be the
next huge jamband, which seems to be
the current trend these days.
