The Temporary Food Critic

Dead Low Tide

The Rhino

I'm knocking down another freeloader, super ego/not-so-super ego rock and roll food review with Dead Low Tide.

How do I begin? Like Hunter S. Thompson or Marth Stewart? Let's do Marth Stewart with a dash of Hunter S. T. and a pinch of Charles Bukowski. (How do you like them apples, conscientous reader?) Okay, here's the routine --six of the guys from Washington state and me, King Weez and boozehound extraordinaire, converged on The Rhino. I knew we should be there for Happy Hour. How can you go wrong with dollar Killian's and Coors Light? Getting the ball rolling, I had the waitress pick three of her favorite appetizers: the Tandoori Beef Skewers with Cucumber Yogurt Salad and Curry Vinaigrette, Spicy Fried Calamari with Lemon Remoulade and the Fire Roasted Veggie Tower. Oh, baby, the apps were ass hot and as tasty as our waitress. we finished them in record time. Now, on to the meal.

Spencer ordered the Bacon-Wrapped Meatloaf Sandwich. Cody and Gabe rocked out with the Seared Sesame Ahi Tuna with Asian Vegetables and an Arugula Salad, Scallion Rice, Soy Ginger Vinaigrette and Wasabi Aioli. Mike went for the Saffron Shrimp Risotto with Andouille Sausage, Prosciutto, Spinach, Tomato and Parmesan. Nate had the Grilled Beef Tenderloins with Roasted Asparagus, Buttermilk Mashers and Port Wine Sauce. As for me, I chose the Black Pepper Pork Tenderloin Medallions with Red Potato Hash, Roasted Poblano Pepper Sauce and Avocado Salsa. The guys came up with all sorts of eating systems --Spencer gave a very good 23 out of 25 Skewers. Cody gave it all Aces; Gabe thought it was worth 39 out of 41 Rhino Tails. All Mike could say was, "tasty, tasty." Nate's comments? "Delicious," and "good, good, good," and "I'm too full to do anything." Five and a half Tenderloins out of six.

My thoughts? The food was fantastic, the presentation beautiful. From A to Z, this place has you covered like a jimmy hat. So, if you're going on a first date or celebrating a 10 year wedding anniversary, this is where you need to go. My rating? 45 out of 41 Rhino Tails. That's all I got to say. Trip has left the building.

Admit it, you're gonna miss the Tripster. That's why we're moving him inside, to his own space. Look for the Weasel's views on life, punk rock and World Cup soccer in our next issue. . Ed.
